On The Loose in Singapore
It Was Like A Kiss
The first thing I felt after exiting the Singapore Changi Airport to walk to our taxi was the soft flush of warm, humid, tropical air. It was like a welcoming kiss to my cheek after living in the dark, dry, cold pre-winter months in Stockholm! We stayed at the sophisticated, newly refurbished Conrad Hotel high rise in downtown Singapore. The young, neatly manicured staff at the front desk was so accommodating and welcoming. I discreetly mentioned to them (when my husband was not around) that it was his birthday and they sent up a small cake to our room! It was my first time staying at the Conrad and I especially loved the memorable ‘Pillow Menu‘ in our room, offering a range of 14 different pillow types to fit your fancy! No, they were not for eating, haha.
Swimming On Top of The World
No trip to Singapore is complete without visiting the famously photogenic infinity pool at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Perched atop the 57th Floor, it is the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool. You won’t find a better place to take a snap in Singapore. To use the pool, you must be a guest of the hotel. We were saddened to learn this as we were keen to dive in and swirl around–and were willing to pay of course, but rules are rules, ah-well. Another happy alternative is to head over to the hotel bar on the adjacent floor, where I took the below shots (while having some shots!) and enjoyed the view from there!

Theme Machines
Another big reason Singapore is perfect for kids old and young is Universal Studios theme park, located on Sentosa Island, Singapore. Prepare to spend the day here. There are loads of thrilling rides, entertaining shows and character-based shops to peruse. As I am not keen on roller coasters, I was pleasantly surprised there was many other fun things to distract me while waiting for my husband and son to exit their rides. As it was not a school holiday, we only had to wait a maximum of 20-30 minutes to get on the popular rides and exhibits, without buying an Express Pass.
Pros & Cons: Singapore
Pros:
- Gorgeously warm, sunny weather outside of the rainy season (July-October). We went at the beginning of November and it was blue skies ahead!
- Lots of activities to see and do, for people of all ages and backgrounds.
- English is widely spoken.
- Safe–at least where we were. We never felt uncomfortable walking around.
- Fresh local street food widely available, mmm!
- Super clean streets
Cons:
- There are very little negative points I can think of apart from 1. Chewing gum is forbidden and 2. The subtle threat of ‘death’ for drug violators (as written on the airport customs declarations card)! Needless to say this got our attention!
Conclusion: Singapore is a definite must! Beautiful, warm, multi-cultural and friendly. It’s a prosperous, business-friendly international city that is safe and clean with lots to see and do. More than just a stopover!

I’ve been to Singapore – a long time ago – and I loved it too. Yes, I remember the chewing gum ban – I’m pretty sure I’d accidentally taken some with me, which made me nervous!

Thanks for your comment! I know how you must have felt about the chewing gum ban; I had to make extra sure none of our family members were carrying them!

Now you’re making me miss home! Singapore is really beautiful and one of the best destinations to be in Asia 🙂 Other places I recommend would be Gardens by the Bay (Hi to supertrees in Avatar!) and Chinatown!!
Trace says
Absolutely agree on both those places! 🙂
